Supporting Girls and Young Women with Everyday Essentials
Oyster Tribe Aboriginal Corporation is proud to welcome TABOO Period Products as a new community partner through TABOO’s Pad It Forward program.
The partnership will strengthen the practical support Oyster Tribe already provides to girls and young women across Dubbo, particularly those experiencing financial hardship or other forms of disadvantage.
For Oyster Tribe, access to period products is about more than providing an everyday essential. It is about dignity, confidence and ensuring young people can participate in everyday life without something as basic as access to period products becoming another barrier.
Building on Support Already Happening in Community
Oyster Tribe has supported girls and young women experiencing hardship through its community programs, including dedicated activities for girls and practical assistance when young people need additional support.
As part of this work, Oyster Tribe also provides essential hygiene packs and hampers, helping young people and families access everyday personal care items that can become difficult to afford when household budgets are under pressure.
Through our engagement with young people, we have seen firsthand how practical assistance with seemingly simple essentials can make a meaningful difference.
The partnership with TABOO will allow us to strengthen this support by making period products more readily available through our programs, outreach activities and community support initiatives.
Becoming a Pad It Forward Partner
Through its Pad It Forward program, TABOO works with community organisations to improve access to period products for people who need them.
As a Pad It Forward Partner, Oyster Tribe will be able to incorporate TABOO period products into the support already being provided in community — including hygiene packs, girls’ programs and other practical assistance for young people experiencing hardship.
Importantly, this means products can be provided through trusted community relationships and in environments where young people can access support respectfully and without judgement.
Partnerships That Respond to Real Community Needs
This partnership reflects the kind of corporate and community relationships Oyster Tribe is continuing to build — partnerships that respond to practical needs identified through our work on the ground.
For girls and young women already facing financial or social disadvantage, access to essential hygiene products should not be another thing they have to worry about.
