Program Models and Activities:

Creating a safe, inclusive space where young people can connect, build confidence, and foster a sense of belonging.

Aboriginal Advocacy & Advice Workshops

Core Objective:

To strengthen cultural identity, wellbeing, and community connection among Aboriginal youth by creating opportunities to engage with Elders, heritage, and creative expression through immersive, hands-on experiences.

Program Focus Area:

  • Cultural Tours:
    Guided visits to significant local sites, deepening understanding of Country, heritage, and tradition.
  • Intergenerational Storytelling:
    Facilitating meaningful exchanges between Elders and youth, sharing stories, wisdom, and lived experiences.
  • Creative Workshops:
    Hands-on activities such as weaving and arts, encouraging cultural expression, skill-building, and pride.

Objectives and Outcomes:

 
To nurture cultural identity, wellbeing, and community connection among Aboriginal youth by providing immersive experiences that blend traditional knowledge, creative expression, and intergenerational storytelling.
Deepened Cultural Understanding:
Young people gain firsthand knowledge of their heritage through guided tours, Elder engagement, and creative arts, strengthening their sense of identity and belonging.

 

Enhanced Wellbeing and Confidence:
Participants build self-esteem and resilience by expressing themselves in a safe, supportive environment and forming meaningful relationships with peers and Elders.

 

Stronger Community Bonds:
The program fosters intergenerational connections and collective pride, encouraging youth to play an active role in sustaining cultural traditions.

 

Ongoing Inspiration and Empowerment:
Youth leave the program equipped with new skills, cultural pride, and a renewed sense of purpose to contribute positively to their community.

Oyster Tribe is committed to providing exceptional support and assistance to individuals with disabilities, empowering them to lead fulfilling and independent lives. Our comprehensive range of services includes Support Employment.

Participants will join cultural tours to significant local sites, take part in intergenerational storytelling with Elders, and engage in creative workshops such as weaving and arts.
We focus on how the child protection system works, your rights and responsibilities as parents or carers, kinship care and restoration pathways, legal processes (including Section 90 applications), and ongoing advocacy and community support.
No, the program is free for participants, thanks to the support of our partners and sponsors.
